The DSSA was founded in 2004, under the orginal name of Down Syndrome Down Under Swimming Organisation (DSDUSO) by a collective group of individuals hoping to empower swimmers with Down syndrome
The DSSA is proud to have a committed community of swimmers who have been frequent on the world podium. Most recently, at the 9th DSISO World Swimming Championships, Australia received the overall winning team award.
The DSSA holds more the 50% of all available world records in Down Syndrome Swimming. We have had the champion team in the last consecutive five World Championships.
Swimming clubs are the backbone of our sport…that’s why, like Swimming Australia, DSSA encourages swimmers of all abilities and levels to join one! Many coaches provide comprehensive training programs beginning with Entry Level Squads right through to National squads.
With our success and popularity the organisation has continued to grow fast with the new members and eager swimmers.
Above all the DSSA makes sure that all pools involved in events, operate in a friendly, safe, and fun-filled environment where the focus is solely on all members.
From the start, the organisation’s members act in accordance with the Swimming Code of Conduct and Ethics.
Our members’ coaches training, has proven to be effective with a number of our members gaining recognition for their talent nationally and internationally
